Arts Splash Kicks Off with Freeport Jazz!

June 5, 2022 @ 6:00 am - 7:30 pm

The High Point Arts Council is thrilled to bring back the summer concert series, Arts Splash, with Freeport Jazz! This year’s kickoff concert will take place on June 5 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Washington Terrace Park, 101 Gordon Street, High Point.

Prior to the concert, the Washington Street Historical Preservation Society will be unveiling a historical maker at 5:00 p.m. at the backside entrance of Washington Terrace Park at 108 Murray Street. This unveiling is part of the official launch for High Point’s African American Heritage Trail.

Spend the afternoon with the Arts Council, Historical Preservation Society, and Freeport Jazz! Chances are you have heard of the contemporary smooth jazz group Freeport not just because two of the members are Grammy recognized but because they are regulars at festivals, top venues and notable events during the past 35 years.

Freeport provides a very soulful, appropriate, inquisitive, and smooth approach to performing. They offer a combination of Smooth Jazz, Contemporary Jazz, and Jazz Standards. The four piece Smooth Jazz group consists of Steve Thornton on saxes, flute, keyboards, Jo Daniels on keyboards, Herman Sanders on drums, and Scott Marvill on basses.

The concert and historical marker unveiling are free to attend and open to the public.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic dinners to the concert to enjoy along with the music.
