HP Arts Council Presents: PPS Jazz Poetry Slam

April 26 @ 7:00 pm8:30 pm

Free

Join the High Point Arts Council’s Pullman Poet Society (PPS) on April 26 for their first ever jazz poetry slam! Combining original poems with live jazz music by Brandon Vaughan, this free event will serve as one of many events dedicated to the nationally recognized Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM). This event will take place from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Centennial Station Arts Center in downtown High Point.

Bringing together writers that come from a wide variety of backgrounds, the PPS has served as a welcoming and encouraging group that has given a voice to writers since it began in 2016. Being completely free and open to all ages and experience levels, the PPS meets twice a month and has monthly poetry readings on the first Saturday of each month at Sunrise Books. Since 2016, the PPS has published an anthology of their works and held multiple readings and workshops by published poets. Joining the PPS for this event is the talented saxophone musician Brandon Vaughan who has performed for the Arts Council at past events and never ceases to amaze the crowd. This event will also feature a jazz photo gallery by La-Faithia White. La-Faithia White is a professional photographer who has volunteered with the John Coltrane International Jazz and Blues Festival since it began. Her exhibit will showcase jazz portraits of the late great and poetic Al Jarreau, George Duke, and others that have performed at the two-day event over the years.  Prints will be available for purchase.

Admission for this event is completely free. Copies of the PPS anthology will be for sale at this event. All proceeds collected by the PPS go directly back into supporting the efforts of the group. The Centennial Station Arts Center is located 121 S. Centennial Street in downtown High Point.
